Welcome to Chase Hill Farm
Chase Hill Farm is a small organic certified dairy farm located in the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts. Our mission is to be a source of healthy, high quality, local food created from 100% grassfed cows. Our herd of Normande cows are bred for both beef and milk production. We use sustainable low input practices including rotational grazing, seasonal calving, and draft horsepower. We use a cheese cave to store and age the cheese.
Our solar panels have been in operation for a full year now and provide a large portion of our electricity.
We bought a horse-powered treadmill which we plan to use this year to power the milking machines. While the horses are exercising they will create energy to milk the cows, rather than using electricity to run the vacuum pump and milking machines.
We also plan to use the treadmill to run a wood splitter and possible cool the milk in the future.
Since last spring’s training of our draft horses to work as a 3-horse hitch in addition to working as 2 horse teams, we are using them to pull heavier loads, like fuller manure spreaders or larger wagonloads of wood. As a 3-horse hitch they can spread the manure or rake hay on steeper hills that we previously had to maneuver around differently.
Winter Markets
I am selling cheese at some of this year’s prolific winter markets:
10-1 in Greenfield: first Saturday of each month through March at 2nd at Second Congregational Church in the Town Square beside the Town Hall.
10-2 in Amherst: at the Amherst Middle School. I am attending the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of January, February and March.
See you there!
